45 Jermyn St

 Game season time

Grouse Breast, Liver Parfait on Toast with Girolles and Poached Figs

45 Jermyn St is located behind Fortnum & Mason, a modern European style brasserie that offers fine dining style cooking with flavours influenced from around the world. The restaurant is known for its caviar and game dishes, which is perfect as the grouse season has just kicked in. The restaurant has also appointed a new chef in Sam White, who was the ex group head chef of Hix, so I am sure he can take 45 Jermyn St's game offering to the next level. To fully embrace the grouse season, I opted for grouse for both my starter and main.

My starter of the grouse breast on toast with liver parfait was sensational, the parfait was smooth, creamy with just a small hint of earthiness, it acted like a meaty butter for the finely seasoned grouse. The addition of poached figs offered a lovely sour contrast which added balance to the whole dish. Even better was my main of grouse and foie gras pie, it was baked to perfection with a nice crispy surface with such an inviting aroma. The meat was so tender and the foie, along with the blackberry jam created such sweet yet savoury harmony, it was game pie at its finest. Dessert was also solid, the cherry Soufflé was so light and smooth, with just a lovely undertone of almonds, it was such a great way to finish off the meal.

My game dinner at 45 Jermyn Street was really top-notch, the game dishes were indeed excellent as I was hoping for, I also got the chance to try other dishes but they were nowhere to the level of the grouse dishes, so it does seem like the restaurant can be really great at turning out their signatures dishes, such as the lobster pasta and games, but not as solid as other items. I would strongly suggest coming here for its game dishes, as along with The Game Bird, I think these two are the finest game focus restaurants in London.
