Galvin Bistrot de Luxe

Classy Bistro

Galvin Bistrot de Luxe

If you are a regular reader on my blog, you will know I am a fan of the Galvin brothers' Michelin starred Galvin La Chapelle. The brothers have a fine collection of restaurants across London, from the super luxury Galvin at Windows inside The Hilton Park Lane to the humble but classy Galvin Cafe a Vin in Spitalfield. Galvin Bistrot de Luxe located on Baker Street, is a stylish French Bistro that serves classic French cuisine with a British and modern twist. I was on my way to Regent's Park so a quick lunch at Galvin Bistrot was a no-brainer for me.

canapes
organic carrot velouté
smoked salmon tartare
chicken and ham hock terrine

The lunch menu offers 3 choices of each course, costing £21.50. I was really impressed with the chicken and ham hock terrine. It was finely blended, rich and savoury, which went well with the sweetness of the pineapple chutney. The smoked salmon tartare was outstanding, that form of potato gazpacho added a light creamy depth to this fish. However I was not a fan of the Cornish gurnard, the texture of the meat was rough and lacked seasoning. Roasted breast of Herdwick lamb on the other hand was excellent, the meat was very moist and cooked to perfection, the carrot and pine nuts added a touch of sweetness and nutty aroma to plate, it was by far my favourite dish of the day.

Cornish gurnard
Herdwick lamb
Cheese
poached Red Williams pear, fudge ice cream, coco mousse
steamed date pudding, pumpkin ice cream

My lunch at Galvin Bistrot de Luxe was very solid, some great dishes and I can't really complain when it costed around the £20 mark. I am pretty sure the full price menu would have been even better in terms of cooking quality and use of ingredients. But the lunch menu offered me a good insight of how capable the chefs are. Lastly a massive shout out to the service team, faultless and charming, the general service level across London is pretty decent but here at Galvin, they are on another level.
