Bodega 1900

Classy tapas

snow crab with dill on toast

Bodega 1900 is a trendy tapas bar in Barcelona by the legendary brothers Ferran and Albert Adria. Since after closing down El Bulli, which was regarded as one of the very best restaurants in the world. The brothers has been busy setting up many different dining concepts in Barcelona, including the 1 Michelin starred Tickets, which is now one of the hardest restaurants to secure a booking. Bodega 1900 on the other hand has a much lower profile, it is a cosy classic tapas bar, serving traditional tapas with a small modern touch. We had the tasting menu, suggested by our waiter so we can try a wide ranges of the menu.

razor clams
Iberian ham

The razor clams in white escabeche sauce was very pleasant, the natural sweetness of the razor clams worked wonder with the sourness of the dressing. The smoked salmon with truffle honey on toast was a very well accomplished of flavours combination, the oiliness and earthiness of the taste profiles were simply outstanding. The deep fried anchovies was perhaps too salty for my liking, taste-wise it was too one dimension. However, the beef tenderloin was perhaps the finest cured beef I have had, rich, bold and flavoursome without being overwhelming, it was just as good as the 5 years Joselito Iberian ham if not better.

Overall it was a great lunch, we had sample 12 tapas dishes ranging from cured meat, cheese to seafood and baguette which was very satisfying. Price wise it was not the cheapest tapas bar in the city but then again most of the dish were more refine, using fresh produces. The ingredients without a doubt were of very high quality, the cooking was simple but really well executed. All the waiters also spoke very good English and very caring no matter if you are a local or a tourist, I couldn't ask for more. It is a small but lively place with great atmosphere and is well worth paying a visit if you are a fan of the Adria brothers and love tapas.
