Osteria dell'Enoteca

Classy Tuscan flair in Florence

Steak time!

Osteria dell'Enoteca is a Tuscan style restaurant located in the southern part of Florence city center, not too far from the landmark Pitti Palace. It is somewhat an unusual restaurant, spit across two dining rooms inside an old warehouse. At the same time, it has a fine dining feel to it, thanks to the well spaced out, large tables covered with a white tablecloth, each of the two dining room has no more than 10 tables, making the restaurant has a premium edge. The menu is largely Tuscan cuisine, guests are invited to try its steak for their main course, these are large cut of T bones that would require sharing unless you are a very hungry person, with each weight at least 1kg.

Maccheroncetti Pasta with Spring Asparagus & Pecorino Cheese

I love pesto and pistachios, so when I saw there is a spaghetti dish on the menu cooked in a pesto and pistachios sauce, I knew that was the starter I would gun for. The spaghetti was very smooth and it was topped with some very tender calamari, a very satisfying dish indeed. The handmade maccheroncetti pasta was a comforting dish, it is almost like a modern mac and cheese but with much more elegant taste thanks to the Pecorino cheese and crispness of the Spring asparagus. For the main event, I went for the "Bistecca di Rubia Gallega" an old aged cut of meat from Northern Spain, served medium rare as it should be. The smokiness, along with the meaty flavour of the steak was fantastic. However, I felt the steak could be a bit more tender.

To sum it up, Osteria dell'Enoteca is fair value for money restaurant with elegant decor to match. If you skip out the steak, you will pay no more than 18 Euro for a main course, which is a real bargain. The service on the day spoke very good English and took great care of every diner, no matter if they are local or from elsewhere. This is not a bad spot at all if you travel to Florence and looking for something classy at an affordable price, especially after you have been touring around Boboli Garden and Pitti Palace.
