Sabor

Epic Spanish feast

Seafood rice

I don't really go to that many Spanish restaurants in London, simply because you can get the real deal not far away and is usually so much better and cheaper than anywhere you would find in London. Take Barrafina as an example, while it does has a Michelin star and many would be considered is the best Spanish tapas bar in London, I find it pretty standard and you will find many standard Spanish restaurants that can be just as good, if not better back in Spain. However, there is indeed a special Spanish joint in London for me, aka Sabor. A casual tapas bar and restaurant that offers classic dishes from around Spain.

Squid croquettes
Crispy pig ears
Octopus

I have eaten at Sabor 2 times before, and for my 3rd visit, I opted for a selection of tapas as starters, before diving into large sharing mains. The octopus is somewhat a signature dish of the restaurant, simply poached before seasoned with paprika and olive oil. It was super tender and smooth, really outstanding. The seafood rice was just as good, the rice absorbed all the lovely taste of the sea from the shellfish stock, and the red prawns on top were cooked perfectly with such a sweet and rich umami taste, it was stunning. The main event was a giant whole turbot, cooked to perfection, really moist, and was simply faultless. It was whole fish cooking at the highest order, it was truly special.

Tortilla
BBQ whole turbot
Segovia suckling pig

Sabor has once again delivered a really high-level meal, it is not just the best Spanish restaurant in London for me, it is also one of the finest restaurants in the capital and totally deserve its Michelin star status. This is my third visit, and it was the best to date yet. Not a single dish failed to deliver, it was either good to excellent. Sabor is all about using top fresh ingredients, using classic Spanish cooking techniques with no gimmicks, staying true to simplicity. Covid 19 limited my visit to Spain, but for now, Sabor is more than enough to feed my Spanish food addiction.
