Fire Dog

Not your usual Turkish restaurant

Charred octopus

Located on the former site of Piquet on Newman Street, just a stone throw away from the ever busy Oxford street, Fire Dog is a brand new restaurant serving Turkish inspired mezes and grills. Labelled itself as a "Meze dining club", Fire Dog is not your usual Turkish restaurant. It spreads across two floors, with neon signs, graffiti artworks and a strong focus in cocktails, it feels more like a night club. The all-day dining restaurant provides sharing dishes. Diners are encouraged to order a selection of cold and hot mezes, before moving on to the open flame charcoal grilled dishes, ranging from classic lamb cutlets to stuffed aubergine.

You it is not unusual to order a hummus in a Turkish restaurant, and Fire Dog has done this classic dish justice. It was creamy but not sickeningly rich or filling with a sensational buttery aroma, this could be a meal on its own together with some freshly baked pita bread. The charred tender octopus was another solid dish, it had a delightful smoking aroma and a lovely melting texture. The sujuk, an Middle Eastern styled sausage packed a punch with its intense herbs and spices mix. It was an offset wonderfully with the lightness of the lemon yogurt. Last but not least was the Spring chicken, it was sweet and moist, I especially enjoyed that preserve lemon marinade which had a perfect balance of sweetness and sourness.

My dining experience at Fire Dog had to be one of my favourite Turkish dining experiences in London. All the dishes were pretty top notch, and a special mention to the bar team who had came up with the "No Smoke without Fire", a Zombie style cocktail that came with DIY BBQ marshmallows, what a fun and clever idea that is "on brand" at the same time. Food quality wise is similar to Yosma at Baker Street, but with a far more relaxing and contemporary vibe. To sum it up, a cool and fun restaurant serving modern Turkish mezes and grills, well worth a try for anyone who seek creative Middle Eastern food.
