Park Chinois

Fine Chinese cuisine, Mayfair style

Xiao long bao, truffle dumplings, scallop dumplings and dried shrimp rolls

Mayfair is full of overpriced restaurants the quality of food can always be questionable, so it is somewhere that I usually avoid. However, Park Chinois is one of the few exceptions. The fine-dining Chinese restaurant is a personal favorite of mine, the restaurant does not shy away from using premium ingredients and uses classic Chinese cooking techniques to create things contemporary while staying true to Chinese cuisine heritage.

For my recent visit, I ordered a selection of dim sum as starters, before jumping onto big sharing plates for the main. Park Chinois has the best rice roll in London for me. The truffle roll showcased remarkable technical skills from the kitchen. The rice roll wrapped around a layer of crispy tofu skin, which was stuffed with mushrooms. The dishes offered multiple layers of texture while all the ingredients worked so well together. The grilled black cod reminded me of the version from Nobu, but even better. The fish had a lovely buttery creamy texture and the sweet and nutty taste of the sarcha sauce offered harmony and moisture.

I cannot believe this was my 24th visit to Park Chinois, this place is also my most visited restaurant if you take away fast-food places. Then again, this place does exceptional Chinese food that I feel is above anywhere else in London, and that's including A Wong. While this is not a cheap place, you are paying for premium ingredients such as truffle, wagyu and Iberico pork, so in a way is justified. You can always come for lunch for its lunch set menu or dim sum selection to reduce the spending too.
