Whenever I make a trip to San Sebastian, a meal at Bar Nestor is always on the agenda. I have been there 5 times now, the little bar inside the Old Town is not like your typical pintxo bar. They only do a few things but do them exceptionally well, they have the legendary tortilla which there are only 16 portions per service, many would rate it the best tortilla you can find in the world. Besides tortilla, tomatoes, peppers, and rib steak are on the menu, the perfect package for a casual yet flavoursome meal.

The tomato salad doesn't look anything special but the taste is another matter. Sweet, fruity with a strong depth of umami taste, all enriched by a good pinch of sea salt and olive oil. As far as tomato goes, you can't get better than that. The 1.1kg chuleton rib steak was such a treat too. Served on a burning hot plate, which helps seared all the lovely moisture within the steak. Each mouthful was an explosive taste of meaty heaven, and for me, not a single place in the UK can rival it.

The legendary Bar Nestor is truly one of a kind and my personal no1 casual pintxos bar in San Sebastian. In fact, on my recent 5 days trip, I have been twice. For top-class tomato and steak, plus some other pintxos and a few wines, it cost me less than 30 euros per person. This is crazy good value for money.
