Ho Hung Kee

Shrimp feast

Ho Hung Kee... busy

Located inside Hysan Place shopping center above Causeway MTR station, Ho hung Kee is a Chinese restaurant that specialises in Gungdong style noodle and was awarded a Michelin star in the 2015 guide. Now it is an extremely popular restaurant and as expected, I had to wait a while before I managed to get a table due to its no booking policy. The decor is very modern with glossy design elements which was refreshing.

The signature wonton was decent at best, the shrimp was fresh but lacked seasoning, also the wonton was tiny which wasn't value for money at all. The shrimp and egg stir fried noodle was again average, and I did find the noodle a little oily. However. What I enjoyed a lot was the shrimp and baby shoot dumplings and zhaliang. The zhaliang's rice roll was soft and smooth, with the savory doughnut still remaining crispy on the inside.

The food at Ho Hung Kee was really nothing to sing about, while some of the dishes were pretty good in their own right, it was never even close to Michelin standards and far too expensive for what it is charging for it. I can easily find better food elsewhere at a cheaper price and without the need to put up with all the waiting around. Ho Hung Kee clearly took advantage of its Michelin rating and over charging for what its cookings worth.
