Queen of dessert
Under the tree |
Hofmann is a 1 Michelin starred restaurant in the northern part of Barcelona, it is famous for its cookery school as well as its fine dining restaurant. Like most fine dining restaurants, diners are given either a tasting menu or choice from the a la carte menu (about 8 choices from each course). My starter of veal canelon was a fun but a fairly average dish, it had a lot of rich flavours such as the cheese and truffle. I think it needed some lighter ingredients to give it a greater balance as it was a very rich dish.

The main, rack of lamb was served with aubergine, a classic combo but done in a modern way. It was cooked to perfection and finely seasoned. the cheese and smoky element added depth without overwhelming the whole plate. The Hofmann burger had a mixture of mango, chocolate, lemon and passion fruit, no gimmick here as everything tasted divine with the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness. "Under the tree" was truly a masterpiece, the technical skill was spectacular and the apple elements worked wonders with the mascarpone cheese.

Overall it was a very high quality meal at the Hofmann, apart from the decent starters, everything were top notch. The desserts were simply sensational, it ticks every single boxes, from the creative element, presentation and tastes. Every single dessert I have tasted that evening can easily be in a 2 or even a 3 star restaurant in the UK. Price wise is also very reasonable, it costed me £50 with a glass of wine for a 3 course meal, that price you would struggle to get a set lunch with wine in a 1 star restaurant in London. Combining with the informal but smart service, I highly recommend Hofmann and I would 100% return if I ever visit Barcelona again.
