A Culinary Symphony by Jason Atherton

Caviar, cucumber and oyster |
Located on Savile Row (hence the name Row on 5), Row on 5 is the latest fine dining jewel in the crown of acclaimed British chef Jason Atherton. Known for his mastery in blending sophisticated flavours with impeccable presentation, Atherton has once again raised the bar with a restaurant that epitomizes modern elegance and culinary artistry. He has done a lot of restructuring in his restaurant empire over the last 12 months, from shutting down his flagship Pollen Street Social and Social Eating House, to opening up 5 in the space of a few months, Row on 5 is his most ambitious and the most premium offering of the lots, with only a fixed tasting menu of 15 courses.

Upon entering Row on 5, diners are greeted by a space that exudes refined sophistication. The open kitchen is a focal point, offering diners a glimpse into the meticulous craftsmanship that defines Atherton's culinary ethos. The canapes were strong, the first one was a caviar and oyster, it screamed the essence of the sea, very fresh with the addition of cucumber, a refined course. Scallop in the main dining room was another outstanding dish. It was roasted before garnishing it with trout roe and XO sauce. It had a very powerful seafood umami depth of flavours, and the scallop itself was so soft and smooth in texture. This was followed by Cornish turbot, which was cooked perfectly. The creamy cockle sauce added both freshness and sweetness, with the addition of Amalfi lemon offering such a refreshing aroma.

Dining at Row on 5 is more than just a meal; it’s an experience crafted by a team that takes pride in every detail. The staff strikes the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth, ensuring guests feel welcome without being overwhelmed. Jason Atherton has a well-earned reputation for excellence, and Row on 5 is no exception. It is easily his best fine dining offering and it gave me one of the best fine dining experiences in 2024. The thoughtful fusion of exceptional cuisine, refined interiors, and world-class service makes Row on 5 a destination for food lovers and fine dining aficionados alike. I can see it lands 1, if not 2 Michelin stars in the 2025 edition.
