Kerridge's Bar and Grill

Tom Kerridge's pub food in London

Loin of Ramsbury Estate Venison with “Hand & Flowers” Carrot

Tom Kerridge is perhaps the most talked about chef in the UK right now, beside the 2 Michelin stars status he has earned for many years, he has been active on TV with serval high profile shows. Along with his cookbooks, he has now become a household name and pushed him to a status that is not too far from the likes of Jamie Oliver and Marcus Wareing. His new restaurant in London created a massive media buzz, located inside the luxury Corinthia Hotel. The menu appears to be mostly dishes from his two pubs back in Marlow, with some mirror twists.

Kerridge's Bar and Grill
Loch Duart Salmon with Apple Pancake, Douglas Fir and Avruga Caviar
Claude’s Mushroom ‘Risotto’ with Daniel’s Crispy Egg and Aged Parmesan
Fresh Cornish Crab Vol-au-vent with Avocado, Green Apple and Crab Bisque
Chips and venison chilli

We opted for a selection of choices from the a la carte menu to share, the Loch Duart salmon was a really underwhelming dish, lacked taste and felt like it is more of a bistro dish than a fine dining dish. Much better was the Cornish crab vol-au-vent, very fresh and had a great pastry texture wrapped around it. Stuffed rotisserie quail was a dish that I have tried back in Tom's pub The Coach, tasted more or less the same with a lovely hint of earthy flavours, blended in nicely with the tender quail. The venison with “Hand & Flowers” carrot was the best dish on the night, the meat was really moist and cooked perfectly, as was the sauce, so rich and powerful in taste, tasted like heaven with the chips. I mentioned in the past that Tom Kerridge does the best chips and I still think that is the case after trying it one more time at Corinthia hotel.

Whole Stuffed Rotisserie Quail with Boudin Blanc,
Wild Mushrooms and Squash Royale
Pig’s Cheek Pie
Saddle of Cotswold Lamb with black cabbage
Mandarin Souffle with Frosted Sourdough Crumb, Chocolate Sorbet
Brown Butter Tart with Buttermilk Ice Cream

The dinner at Kerridge's Bar and Grill was lovely, however, one thing that really bothered me is the cost. The cooking style is gastropub style but the pricing is at a really high-end fine dining level, with some dishes costing close to the £40 mark. I totally understand this is London and it is inside a 5 stars hotel at the end of the day, but there are plenty of fantastic fine dining restaurants in London costing similar price and dare I say, cooking much more interesting dishes. For a slice of Tom Kerridge's cooking experience, I would advise either come in at lunchtime for its good value set lunch menu or travel to Marlow and dine at the 1 Michelin starred The Coach for a third of the London's cost.
