Park Chinois

Weekend Chinese lunch in style

Scampi Shumai, Har Gau and Summer and Black Truffle Cheung Fun

Park Chinois is easily my top Chinese restaurant in London for me whenever I seek a top-level Chinese dining experience. The Mayfair site offers Cantonese cuisine, with a range of European and regional Chinese influences. The restaurant has 2 floors, the top ground floor is a classy, stylish dining room called Salon de Chine, while the basement is more informal and has a club feel to it. The lunch and dinner menu is fairly similar, the main difference is that the dim sum choices are a lot bigger while at dinner time it has a larger a late carte menu. For my lunch, I went for the best of both worlds, selected a range of dim sum as a starter, before diving into some meat and seafood mains.

It is safe to say you would not be able to find anything similar to the wagyu beef bamboo charcoal bao at Park Chinois, the smoky aroma, together with the moisture and flavoursome of the beef filling was just incredible. The steamed king crab has always been my favourite dish from the restaurant, and this time was no different. The meat was so moist and fresh, the shaoxing wine really enhanced the umami profile of the crab, I got nothing but love for it. I also got the chance to try out some new dishes, the wild seabass cooked in a dried seafood stock was simply outstanding. The dried shrimps, scallops and crab offered a whirlwind of seafood aroma and flavours to the stock, which worked so well with the natural sweetness of the seabass, it was stunning.

As expected, Park Chinois delivered another outstanding meal, the food offered so much impactful and great flavours, all in such a refined manner. Another great thing about Park Chinois is there are plenty of unusual and creative dishes, such as the Park Carbonara and blue swimmer crab salad. They only use top range ingredients, sourced from around the world. There are many great Chinese restaurants in London, but I feel Park Chinois just edge above everybody else. The only downside about this venue is the service, which seems rather slow and confusing in many occasions. That aside, Park Chinois has the best food and the best decor in the Chinese restaurant category in London for sure.
