Chinese banquet-style delight

Steamed king crab in aged rice wine and rice noodles |
Back again at the wonderful fine dining Chinese restaurant Park Chinois in Mayfair, serving classy Chinese cuisine using the finest ingredients. I have eaten there a few times and worked my way to try most of the items on the menu, I really enjoy how the restaurant based its cooking in the traditional Chinese manner, but with a touch of modern twist ever so slightly to create something truly special. For my lucky 13th visit, I have given the kitchen the freedom to come up with an omakase treatment, serving a blind tasting Chinese banquet-style menu, mixing in the restaurant's signature dishes, as well as some off the menu goodies.

Wagyu short-ribs in black bean |
Steamed eggs in Cantonese style had a soft, jelly-like texture, almost like a savory version of panna cotta. It was topped off with black truffle, offered a rich earthly aroma and worked so well with the egg. One of the off-menu dishes was red shrimps rice which used Japanese pearl rice. The red shrimps were sweet and had a great depth of shellfish umami taste as expected, and the rice absorbed all the beautiful shellfish stock to create a lovely seafood rice dish that is truly sensational. The signature shortribs Scottish wagyu was as good as I recalled, the melting texture of the beef, along with the bold black bean aroma offered such a bold, deep flavour taste, with the use of dried orange peels to balance off the richness.

The long 10 courses feasting menu took almost 4 hours and what a feast it was, I sampled some classical Chinese dishes but in a really refined manner using outstanding ingredients, as well as some new creative dishes that the chef has specially arranged, which I am so thankful for. I found with Chinese food, the more people the better as you can sample more dishes, and the Chinese banquet concept is all about gathering people for a good time with great food, and Park Chinois is a great choice for such feasting format.
