A top-notch fine dining experience in West London
Short Rib, Turnip and Nasturtium |
I have always got a special spot for The Five Fields, one of the finest restaurants in London. I first experienced its cooking 6 years ago, before it gained a Michelin star, and I was really impressed with how exceptional it was. I just find the cooking at The Five Fields so special, really interesting with amazing attention to detail in its cooking, it is truly unique. Fast forward to 2019, I returned for my second visit. A few things have changed since then, it is now also open for lunch, with a more affordable menu at £65 for 3 courses. However, to fully enjoy the full Five Fields experience, I opted for the tasting menu at dinner time.

Foie Gras, Seaweed and Eel |
Out of all the dishes I have tasted, I found the foie gras extremely enjoyable. It was coated with beetroot with some seaweed, the foie gras is so creamy and smooth, but not too rich at the same time. The addition of eel added a nice meaty texture, and also acted as a seasoning, it had the perfect balance of texture and taste. The meat course of the day was a beef short rib and gosh it was special. The meat was so tender and cut like butter, the mild sweetness and earthiness of the turnip worked beautifully with the meat. The dish might look simple on the plate, but I am sure so much work went into it, it was really a masterpiece. The dessert of chocolate and coffee was just as good, elegant in taste with a lovely bittersweet taste, with just a tiny hint of nutty tone.
Girolles, Lettuce and Bacon |
Cod, Mussels and Broccoli |
Chocolate, Coffee and Hazelnut |
I am so glad I went back to The Five Fields, it was as good as my first visit, if not better. The Five Fields is what fine dining is all about. Amazing cooking, with a touch of a modern element to keep things interesting. The dining room itself is a bit old fashioned fine dining style on the other hand, fairly small with limited colour or design. Judging the cooking quality, I would rate The Five Fields to be perhaps the best 1 Michelin starred restaurant in London right now, and well could be the next 2 stars restaurant in the near future. This is the perfect venue for a special occasion, with a touch of classic glamour.
