Ristorante Lorelei

Stunning classy seaside restaurant

Raw scampi, with ricotta cheese, garden peas and black truffle

Located within a 5 stars hotel of the same name, Lorelei is without a doubt one of the restaurants with the most amazing seaside view. Just on the edge of the ever-busy Sorrento city center, the Michelin starred fine dining restaurant overlooks the sea with Capri island on the left, and the bay of Naples on the right. For sure ask for a table at its terrace space for that stunning view. On the menu, there are 4 tasting menus to pick from, from its signature fish menu, market menu, and vegetable menu to a blind tasting one. Given the seaside location and seafood is such an essential part of Sorrento's cuisine, I opted for the signature menu.

Codfish with crispy sourdough, cherry tomato sauce, capers and olives

Durum-wheat tagliolini with black truffle and raw scampi

Codfish with crispy sourdough was almost like a modern take on British fish and chips, the cod was steamed but layered with 2 pieces of thin crispy bread so you kind of gets the best from both worlds: the soft moist texture from steaming, and the crunchiness on the surface. The tagliolini with truffle was heavenly, the sauce was creamy with a hint of seafood aroma, and the sweetness from the shrimps uplifted the umami to another level, it was the best dish of the lot. Perhaps the only dish I enjoyed less was the armberjack, which was meaty and almost had a chicken-like texture, and the cherries were confusing with fish for me.

Passion fruit and white chocolate

Seasonal vegetables tart with sugar crystals, yogurt cream

Lorelei fully deserved its Michelin star status, the cooking was sophisticated, stylish, and took advantage of the wonderful local seafood ingreindets. Besides the amazing sunset view by the coast that I was lucky to be able to witness, I must say the service was also outstanding, the team of serving staff was slick and charming, all very kind and welcoming with no stuffiness whatsoever. Out of the restaurants I have visited in Sorrento, Lorelei would be the one I would for sure like to come back again.
