The Quality Chop House

Great British cuisine

A rather unusual name, The Quality Chop House is a British restaurant, wine bar and butcher shop located in Farringdon with a grade-II listed dining room which looks like a chapel, I went for dinner and noticed you only get a fixed tasting menu if you choose to sit in the historical dining room. As it gives me a good chance to try a range of dishes, I was happy to give the tasting menu a go but for less adventuress people I would advice to sit in the wine bar as it offers you a daily changing a la carte menu.

We were given a range of small plates of nibbles, mostly British themed instead of the usual French stuff which was rather refreshing to see. The pork rillettes with pickles was simply done yet it tasted full of rich and earthy flavours, the hint of bitterness of the pickles did nicely to cut through the full flavour of the rillettes. Smoked ox heart offered interesting meaty textures, with a touch of smoky and bitter tastes.

The main event of Jacob mutton came with a range of side dishes of courgettes, pink firs and spring greens. The mutton steak was absolutely fabulous, the seasoning was perfect, the meat was tender, moist and full of richness. The side dishes were also well executed, the pink firs potato with nettles pesto proved to be a smart combination with a lovely sweet and nutty undertone. Dessert failed to managed to retain the standard, the gariguette strawberry and lemon verbena was pleasant but the citrus notes was a little too sharp for my liking.

Beside the uncomfortable seat. I really enjoyed my tasting menu experience at The Quality Chop House, it managed to pull off some excellent British classics using fine ingredients which is a rare quality these days. The service was also smart and friendly which was a real big plus. Considering the price tag of £35 per person, it was a real bargain for the types of cooking you are getting and I am keen to return in the future to check out their wine bar menu.
