Sabor

Spanish sensation in London

Spanish Carabineros

2019 has been a fantastic year for Sabor, the restaurant has gained a Michelin star in its latest UK and Ireland Guide and many food bloggers and food critics would rate it as the Spanish restaurant in the capital. Sabor is owned and operated by chef Nieves and manager Jose, they were the star duo that turned Barrafina into one of the most iconic Spanish tapas bar in London and now both moved on to create Sabor, a tapas and restaurant bar near Mayfair. I have eaten at its upstairs restaurant El Asador and I was in love with it, 6 months later, I returned to try its counter tapas bar on the ground floor which is more layback and casual.

To kicked off the meal in a stylish fashion, we opted for the special of the day, the Spanish Carabineros, just simply grilled before finishing off with some sea salt and olive oil. The prawn was so moist and sweet, with a bags of savory taste from its head. Up next, the arroz negro, a seafood rice dish with squid ink. The Sabor version was rich, creamy with tender cuttlefish to offered such a beautiful seafood aroma. For the final dish, it was the braised oxtail, which interestingly, it was combined with some queen scallops. The meat was seasoned perfectly, it had a rich meaty taste and the scallop acted as sweetening agent, which worked surprisingly well.

As expected, Sabor delivery a really top meal on my visit, most of the dishes were done using fine quality fresh ingredients and cooked exceptionally well by a team of expert chefs. From a pure food point of view, I found the El Asador is a touch better than the counter offering (They have a different menu). El Asador's menu is more refine and better more for sharing, also you can book in advance, while Sabor is walk-in only. The service was pure class on the day, Jose was as charming as he was back in the Barrafina days, Sabor has everything you want from a Spanish restaurant, what is not to love?
