Meat is good

I am a super fan of Blacklock, the mini-chain is a meat temple for serious chops and steak lovers. Spreading across 3 sites, Blacklock is famous for its core signature offering: All In. The All In offers you a selection of nibbles, followed by a mountain of chops and a side dish, all for just £20 person. On Sunday, it follows a similar manner but switched to serving you a pile of roast meat instead of chops. The Sunday All In roasted dinner has since become such a cult dish, and now you have to book months in advance to try. The below captures my 2 recent visits, one on a regular evening, and another one for its legendary Sunday roast.

The restaurant also has a daily blackboard that offers big cuts of steak, I opted for an 800g prime ribs, followed by the classic All In. The prime ribs had a wonderful smoky, crispy edge, with a really moist texture, it was served medium rare, couldn't fault it. From the plate of All In, the best chop for me was the lamb culet, it was so moist, with the rosemary aroma blended into the meaty flavour in harmony. Moving on to the Sunday roast, it came with roasted pork, lamb, and beef with a giant Yorkshire Pudding and some top-notch pork crackling. Once again, I enjoyed the lamb the most, it was really tender, and the gravy packed with so much richness. The only downfall for me is I found the roasted potato was a little too dry and not as soft on the inside as it could be.

Blacklock for me has to be the best value meaty joint in London. For £20, you are getting so much, not to mention its £5 cocktail menu too. For sure, there are better restaurants in London that can deliver better steak or chops, but none can go down to the price level of Blacklock. If you are on a budget but after a meat feast, Blacklock is the place you need to go. You can't go wrong with it.
