Hit-and-miss Spanish affair

Tuna, Caviar, Urchin, Turbot Dripping Potatoes |
Prince Arthur is a brand new pub opening in Belgravia, it features a Spanish restaurant within, which champions seafood and luxury items such as caviar and lobster. During my recent visit to Prince Arthur in Belgravia, I found the experience to be underwhelming, especially considering its price point and the top-quality ingredients it uses (which means is not easy to mess things up!). Starters are in the region of £20 and mains £30, with desserts, service, and drinks, this place would easily set you back £100 per person so I had an expectation.

A small canape of sea urchin, tuna, and caviar just didn't sit right for me, it was unbalanced with the urchin (while lovely), dominated everything else, and reduced the rest of the ingredients to a texture play only. The so-called turbot potato was tasteless, at £25 for twin tiny pieces, it was just not worth it. A whole prawn dish created a bit of a drama as our server informed me it came with 2 pieces and ended up with just one once arrived, when I informed the server she just said she got it wrong and then walked off. The lack of accountability and menu knowledge at this price point was just unreal. The lobster rice was wonderful in taste and the rice was blessed with the rich savory umami taste of the shellfish, just a shame the lobster itself was overcooked.

Prince Arthur, in its attempt to offer a high-end dining experience, falls short in several key areas. The lackluster service (I was given the bill before I asked for it), overcooked dishes, and ambiguous prices make it difficult to recommend, especially when there are numerous other establishments in London that offer superior experiences at more reasonable prices. The open-fire concept Wildflower just down the road offered something far better in flavours, and you have the likes of Lita and Ibai which are just on another level while charging similar prices vs Prince Arthur.
