8 Hoxton Square

Hoxton's new gem

I love 10 Greek Street in Soho, when I visited last year for a nice relaxing dinner, the food was simply wonderful with lovely bold flavours that really got my taste bud buzzing. The only problem is that as it is a no booking restaurant, I just couldn't visit often as it is hugely popular and unless you arrive early, you can end up waiting for hours for a table. So as soon as I found out the same team behind 10 Greek Street opened a new restaurant in trendy Hoxton serving a similar style of food but with booking allowance, it was a no brainer for me to pay a visit.

8 Hoxton Square

Located next to of my favourite cocktail bar Happiness Forget, the decor of 8 Hoxton Square is more or less the 10 Greek street setting but with a much larger space as well as outdoor seating. We started our dinner with solid sesame crumbled cuttlefish which had a pleasant nutty aroma. Octopus with salsify and blood sausage was as good as octopus can get, the octopus was soft like a prime quality steak, the blood sausage and paprika gave the dish some earthy and peppery flavours and overall a very high standard dish.

My main of veal chop with artichokes and wild mushroom was sensational, the quality of the meat was outstanding, very tender and moist with powerful flavours delivered to the palate, the artichokes and potato was also well seasoned. The other main: Lamb breast, spiced carrot puree, sprouting broccoli and anchovy was also superb, great spicy undertone lingering over the tender lamb with robust aroma coming out from the anchovy.

Beside the average desserts, Just liked 10 Greek Street, 8 Hoxton Square delivers some fabulous tastes, with no fancy presentation, just well matched flavour combinations and quality fresh ingredients. Thanks to the restaurant offering bookings, I definitely can see myself visiting again and my advice is to visit the quality bar Happiness Forget first for a nice cocktail or two before heading off to 8 Hoxton Square for one of the best food and drink combos that Hoxton has to offer.
