Noble Rot Soho

Classy French affair

Roast Chicken, Morels & Vin Jaune, Riz au Pilaf

Noble Rot Soho is the second restaurant from the Noble Rot group, known for its simple yet elegant French cuisine and its supreme collection of wine. For the Soho site, the food offering is similar to its original Holborn site with a signature dish aka a roasted chicken cooked with French white wine from the Jura region. For me, despite there being so many French restaurants in London, I am actually not sure if there are any really decent quality ones not above the 70-pound mark so I was looking forward to seeing what Noble Rot Soho can bring to the table.

Trout Quenelle & Saffron Mussel Cream Sauce

Buffalo Mozzarella, Friggitelli Peppers, Anchovy

For my starter, I had a trout quenelle, a rare classic that is not easy to find elsewhere in the UK. The creamy mussel sauce was very comforting and the mussels were cooked perfectly. The trout itself I found on the bold end with its heavy cream texture so it was a little bit too much for me toward the end. The main event of whole roasted chicken came with morels and had a really bold white wine flavour that worked wonders with the chicken and mushroom sauce. The skin was crispy and the meat was tender, it worked well with the side of rice which was also cooked in chicken stock and bay leaf. This was the French-style roasted chicken done at such a quality.

Strawberry & Almond Tart, Crème Fraîche

Sour Cherry & Almond Parfait, Salted Fennel Biscuit

Noble Rot Soho for me is an improvement to the Holborn site, it offers simple French food that is packed with a really bold taste. Nothing fancy, but it could be too much for some I suppose as not everyone is into really in-your-face rich flavour. Food aside, I did enjoy the vibe of the venue, especially the 2 sets of beautiful paintings of Soho's Greek Street on the second floor. For mid-range French cuisine in Soho, Noble Rot is a worthy choice for sure if you are into big, impactful tastes.
