Mixologist at Home

How many times when you go to a house party or a gathering you have to settle for mediocre wine or undrinkable cocktails made by one of your friends who clearly have no idea what went into the drink? Alexander & James, an online retailer specialising in premium spirits has launched a new package: Mixologist at home, providing premium spirits, expert bartenders and all the necessary tools to your home with the package that can be adjusted to any format to tailor the needs of your guests. I was invited along with a few other journalists and bloggers to a studio in Shoreditch to experience the mixologist at home service.

Cocktails on the night provided by James Fowler, one of finalists from the Diageo World Class bartender UK competition. For those who are not familiar with "World Class", it is the biggest  bartender competition in the world, high profile bartenders complete against each other in their region before the best of the lot represent their region and complete against all the other regional winners. Think Master Chef Professional but in mixology at a global stage, you don't get bigger than that.

We started off with a James Bond favourite, the vesper martini. Mixing the ever reliable Tanquery 10 gin and the very unique Ketel One vodka (Distilled in pot stills, you get a lot more flavour from the base ingredient than column distilled vodka, such as Absolute). The outcome? A dry, bitter and well refined martini that Ian Fleming himself would be proud of.

Ketel One, Tanquery Ten and Zacapa

Moving on to an all time classic, a whiskey old fashioned using Bulleit Bourbon, a simple cocktail that contains sugar, bitter and orange zest. The fresh oaky notes from the well aged Bulleit Bourbon whisky was perfect in the old fashioned. The orange zest really brings out the wonderful vanilla and spicy aroma which is such a treat for any given time and space.

We finished off with a glass of the stunning Zacapa Centenario 23 rum to round off a fun and engaging evening. The mixologist at home package has prove to be a really useful tool should you wish to host a party at home in style, what set the difference to other home bar tendering services is that Alexander & James provides some of the highest quality brands, mixlogists are the best in the business and even the glassware is beautifully crafted, lots of attention to detail to ensure some of the finest cocktails experience you would ever encounter at home.
