Song Que Cafe

Causal Vietnamese goodness

Kingsland Road in Shoreditch is blessed with some top Vietnamese restaurants, there is just something special about Vietnamese cuisine that I absolutely adore, the refreshing flavours with bold and powerful tastes, for me is like a mixture of Thai and Chinese cuisine with a soft French touch (Vietnam is ex-colony of France). Song Que Cafe is renown for its good value Vietnamese cooking, nothing fancy, just simple classic dishes at a very affordable price.

For starters, I went for the chicken satay and it was just simply wonderful, the spicy and nutty flavour worked in harmony with the smoky grilled chicken meat. It is hard to avoid the famous pho dish when you visit a Vietnamese restaurant and this time was no different. The rich broth was so powerful and savoury, cooked in beef bones and Asian spices such as star anise and ginger. The smooth and silky beef tendon and tripe benefited from the broth greatly and it was a bowl full of beef goodness. You can treat Song Que either as a quick grab or a proper dinner joint due to its extend long menu that suits both occasions, however it is a cafe at the end of day so don't expect any fancy services and it can get very busy in the evening with a no booking policy.

  1. Big fan of this place. Great date spot. Makes me psyched to be a foodie and head upstate. Awesome staff as well at San Francisco restaurants. Such amazing and really fresh food. The only downside is that it fills up quickly.
