Brasserie Zedel

Top dog brasserie

Brasserie Zedel

There are not many great value for money French brasserie, but Brasserie Zedel is definitely one of those places. Classy setting, live music and quality traditional French cooking, all at a reasonable price in central London. Beside the classic al la carte menu, Brasserie Zedel also offer some cheaper choices such as the price-fixed-no-choice menu, at £12.50 for 3 courses, it represents one of the best deal you will find in a French restaurant in London. I first experienced Brasserie Zedel back in 2013, now three years later, I was interested to see if the restaurant had kept its good standards, which had landed them a Michelin Bib Gourmand.

My starter of celeriac salad had an ice cool texture, it was full of refreshing flavours, not overly creamy with a great hint of freshness and burning sensation from the mustard mayonnaise. The main of beef braised in red wine sauce reminds me of the lovely humble French food I once had when I was in France, the richness of the sauce was just right, as the meat was very moist. You can't get any more classic than that. Finally, was the soft meringue island dessert, perhaps the weakest dish on the day, the technique and texture was faultless, however the sweetness was rather overwhelming which totally distorted my taste bud.

Brasserie Zedel is truly a hidden gem in London, and it seems it has just got a touch better if I was to directly compare it to my last visit. One of the great things about this restaurant is its always buzzing atmosphere, along with the classic brasserie decor, feels just as if you are in France, this place is perfect for a date or for families. Service was also decent, not overly formal or careless. To sum it up, if you are a fan of traditional French food, Brasserie Zedel is a great choice. It might not be the very best in London, but totally value for money, in a superb location.
