Hakkasan Hanway Place

Sunday lunch in style

Roasted silver cod with Champagne and honey

When you think of a fine dining Chinese restaurant in London, the chance is Hakkasan would be the very first name that pops up to your mind. The iconic restaurant started life in Hanway Place and has since expanded into a global business, with 5 restaurants in London alone. These days, Hakkasan Hanway Place still has maintained its Michelin star status and is still extremely popular to the locals. On Sunday, it offers a special menu, with dim sum taking the main stage, with champagne and cocktails. it is basically a Chinese version of a lazy brunch menu, but at a premium quality level.

Crispy duck salad
Black truffle pumpkin puff, Fried vermicelli chicken,
Morel mushroom puff with mooli and spring onion Baked lamb puff with almond
Har gau, Chinese chive jade dumpling,
Truffle chicken shui mai with tobiko ,White peppercorn seafood dumpling

The Sunday menu started off with a crispy duck salad, and I got nothing but love for it. The pomelo was the magic ingredient, with that lovely sour and fruity tone that worked so well with the duck meat. For the dim sum, I was impressed with the truffle chicken shui mai the most. The meat had a great chewy texture and the tobiko offered a nice earthy touch. The morel mushroom puff with mooli was another lovely dim sum, deep fried to perfection with a soft, smooth and creamy filling. The main of roasted silver cod had a wonderful flaky texture as I was hoping for, along with great seasoning. However, I found the texture of the honey sauce was a little too thick for my liking, the sweetness was also very powerful, which took away some of the umami flavour of the cod.

The Sunday lazy lunch was an enjoyable experience, all the dim sum lived up to expectation, well crafted, beautiful to the eyes and great in taste. The wok main courses were not as outstanding on the other hand. Service on the day was excellent, it had the perfect balance of casualness and professionalism, which is rare in a Chinese restaurant. To sum it up, the Hakkasan Sunday menu is a great alternative to your usual western brunch menu, not the cheapest but then again it does comes with cocktails, tea, and bubbles if you factor that in mind.
