Vini e Vecchi Sapori

Florence's local charm

Steak with cheese and rocket

Located in the heart of Florence, Vini e Vecchi Sapori is perhaps one of the most loved restaurants in the city. Popular to both the locals and tourists, the restaurant is extremely popular so booking is essential, but what is so special about this restaurant? Judging from the menu, it is mostly classic Tuscan cuisine, using local ingredients. What really got me knowing it is truly an authentic restaurant is the fact that is stated it offers no pizza, no takeaway, and cappuccino, a far cry from your tourist trap across the city.

Mozzarella and hand cut ham
Spaghetti with bacon, olive and cream

For starter, I had the classic prosciutto ham and mozzarella combo. The ham was hand cut into thick slice, the salty and meaty taste was perfect to go with the freshness and creaminess of the mozzarella. The pasta at Vini was seriously good, I opted for the spaghetti with bacon, olive and cream, the smokiness of the bacon, combining the robust and nutty profile of the olive, made it such a fabulous ingredients combination. The pasta itself was cooked perfectly with a smooth texture, I had nothing but love for the dish. The main of sliced beef fillet with parmesan and salad was heavenly, the steak was cooked medium rare as it should be, the umami taste of the parmesan worked like a treat with the steak, and I really enjoyed the freshness of the salad to offer a refreshing contrast.

Dining at Vini e Vecchi Sapori was so casual but was so satisfying at the same time, the cooking was no fuss, simply Tuscan cooking, but done to such a top level. Besides the fabulous food, what made this restaurant special is its lively serving staff. Every single one was so friendly, warm and full of passion in their work, very rare you can see that back in London. To sum it up, Vini e Vecchi Sapori is a rustic, classic Tuscan restaurant that is well worth a visit if you love authentic Italian cuisine and happen to be in Florence.
