£100 duck meal
Signature Peking Duck |
When Imperial Treasure was first launched in late 2018, it was one of the most anticipated openings in London, as the restaurant group itself is a big deal back in the Far East, with over 20 fine dining restaurants, and some has gathered Michelin stars status. The London site has since gathered mixed reviews from the UK media, some label it as overpriced and soulless, while some has rated it as one of the best Chinese restaurants in London. I have eaten at Imperial Treasure already once and was not overly impressed with the cooking, 6 months later, with an updated menu and time to settle down, I was hoping for improvement.

To kick off the meal, I had the signature Peking duck, a dish that required per order and cost £100, even more than Hakkasan. I got to say the duck was really top-notch, the meat was very tender and moist, roasted perfectly. The skin was also extremely crispy and flavorsome, it had a perfect balance of sweetness and umami taste. The boiled chicken with spring onion was another well-executed dish, the chicken was tender, and seasoned with tones of fresh ginger, spring onions, and oil, I got nothing but love for it. The less impressive dish was the baked crab shell, which was stuffed with cheese and onion, it tasted just like a piece of cheese and onion pasty, but at a much higher cost.

The overall quality of the meal was better than my first visit, the classic Chinese dishes were done in a very high standard manner, showing the experience of the kitchen. Having said that, nothing really excited me, it is just most traditional Chinese dishes but at a crazy high cost. When such a place commands this level of cost for a meal, I would be expecting something truly remarkable, but that is not the case with Imperial Treasure. There are just many solid classic Chinese restaurants in London, and all at a much lower cost.
