Bar Sport San Sebastian

Casual all-day pintxo bar

Sea urchin cream

Located in the heart of San Sebesain Old Town, Bar Sport is a little bar that serves classic pintxos. Unlike many other traditional pintxo bars in the city, Bar Sport opens from the morning till late, with no rest between lunch and dinner. This is a popular joint for both the locals and tourists, the menu contains around 30 dishes so there are plenty of choices for sure. With Covid limitation, the bar no longer allows standing with table service only across the whole space. For my visit, I ordered a selection of pintxos which are considered the signature from Bar Sport.

Traditionally bread comes with your orders at a pintxo bar and the bread was perfect for mop-up the sea urchin cream and baked crab. Both dishes had a soft sweet umami taste, creamy and buttery in texture, along with a lovely seafood aroma. It was pure joy when spreading it on the bread. The grilled calamari stuffed with crab was the best dish of the lot, it was cooked perfectly, the calamari was tender and the garlic oil uplifted the whole dish to another level. The classic octopus done in Gallican style was another solid dish, it was very soft in texture, not overcooked, and finely seasoned with sea salt and paprika.

Bar Sport doesn't do world-beater food, but very solid, classic pintxos that I really enjoyed. Price is very reasonable with most dishes costing around the 4 Euro mark, with an unlimited refill of bread, most wines cost less than 1.5 Euro a glass, super great value for money. As this is an all-day pintxo bar, this is especially important as many other pintxo bars and restaurants don't open in the morning or early evening, which makes this place a great choice if you fancy quality pintxos at an unusual time.
