Imperial Treasure Fine Chinese Cuisine London

Classic Cantonese, posh style

Seafood soup dumpling

There are only a few fine-dining Chinese restaurants in London, and Imperial Treasure is perhaps one of the most premium ones while really sticking to its gun, offering traditional food without much western fusion element. I have eaten at Imperial Treasure two times in the past, both enjoyable but found it a little bit too expensive. At lunch hours, Imperial Treasure has a dim sum menu and a set lunch menu so is more affordable. You can see all the classic Cantonese dum sum such as prawn dumpling and pork bun. What caught my eye is the chef specials from the a la carte menu, so I decided to opt for a few of those, with some dim sum in the mix.

The giant seafood soup dumpling was as classic as you get, it was filled with prawns and crab meat, light with a comforting savory broth, it was a fantastic winter warmer. The braised beef brisket in plum wine was easily the best dish of the meal. The meat was tender with a hint of smokiness, the sticky savoy wine glaze was just simply magical. The baked prawns in oat flakes were weak on the other hand. The prawn was cooked fine and well seasoned, but the concept of having oak clothing just didn't work for me. It sucked out all the moisture and make it rather hard to chew into.

The lunch was very enjoyable, all the dim sum were well executed, but at such a high cost, it was the least I was hoping for. Most of the dim sum costs more than £10 per plate, which is compared to £4 in most places in China Town which is not far away. From my lunch visit, I found the service was fairly weak considering it is a fine-dining restaurant, our server was like an emotionless robot. I also found the dishes were a little too small portion-wise based on the cost it is commanding. The cooking quality overall was fine, but I do feel the restaurant is more suited for a dinner occasion for sure.
