Quality Chop House

Chop life on the street

Middle white pork chop

At last, eating outdoor dining is a reality again. However, considering so many restaurants have no outdoor dining, the demand for a table is high with all of those venues that offer outdoor dining space. For Quality Chop House, the legendary meat focus restaurant is a popular venue at a normal time, and with only outdoor space now, along with only 8 tables available, I was extremely lucky to secure a table on a Saturday night. I have been there a few times and the chops are some of the best you can find in London, not to mention the infamous confit potato. For outdoor seating, the menu has been reduced with no tasting menu on offer, I opted for a selection of starters and mains to share with my party.

Chicken liver parfait

Beef tartar

The chicken liver parfait was the highlight of the meal, really smooth, not overly earthy or gamy with a nice depth of umami flavour, which the black truffle jelly further enhanced the richness. The mangalitza black pudding was a powerful, earthy dish, served with burnt apple sauce to balanced off its smokiness and sweetness, it was another winner and one of the finest black pudding dishes I have encountered. Less successful for me was the parmesan and prawn hash, it felt like a glorified Chinese prawn toast with some cheese flavours in the mix, which was rather underwhelming. The Swaledale Barnsley chop is what the restaurant is all about, grilled to perfection and cooked medium as it should be. Nice big smoky aroma and the meat was really tender, nicely seasoned. It was a simple dish but done in such a professional manner.

It was indeed good to be back at Quality Chop House, while it was rather unpleasant to sit on the street by the road and was freezing. The food was still as good as I remembered it, and the waiters did their best to attend to your need. What I love about the restaurant is that it knows how to use good quality British ingredients, and turns out something simple but with maximum flavours, not to mention is great value for money, a lot cheaper than many other high profile meat-based restaurants such as Goodman and Hawksmoor. I am already thinking about heading back once dine in is possible again.
