Wellington feasting

Chicken liver parfait tartlet, hazelnut & cherry |
I have been visiting Portand since it was first launched back in 2015. From the same people behind the legendary Quality Chop House, Portland focuses on fine dining, but in a more relaxing manner, which was a pretty new thing back then. Clearly, it works out as the restaurant has since landed a Michelin star. I have tried both its regular a la carte and tasting menu, but I was interested to give its feasting menu a go. So for my third visit, I gathered a few foodies and book its private dining room.

The feasting menu's main hero is the beef wellington, but guests are able to pick what starter they like, from the regular a la carte. I opted for the raw scallop, which came with dill and apple, it was a sweet and fresh starter that was perfect for summer, every element on the dish worked in harmony. The beef wellington was very tender, finely seasoned with a crunchy pastry, it came with a rich meaty gravy that used beef fat, sounded naughty but it was a real delight. The dessert of tarte tatin was a knocked-out pudding, mild burnt on the surface, sweet and that buttery and fruity taste was the perfect ending, not to mention the custard was blended remarkably.

Tarte Tatin Chantilly cream & custard |
Portland showcased what modern British cuisine is all about, good use of seasonal local ingredients with some creative flavours combination. I personally still prefer the more classic and rustic Quality Chop House, but Portland itself is a wonderful venue if you are looking for modern British in a more refined, yet casual style, then Portland is an ideal restaurant for you, not to mention there are seriously lacking decent high-end restaurants around that area.
