The Michelin-starred Brat in Shoreditch has gained a cult following with its Basque-inspired open-fire cooking. From whole fish to massive chops to more unusual things like BBQ mussels and vegetables, you are getting some of the finest BBQ dishes in London has it now has a Michelin star to its name. Its pop-up space in Climpson's Arch Hackney has been launched on the back of Covid and it appears it is handing around. The space is much bigger with a much larger kitchen and fire space which allow the pop-up to offer a far bigger menu than its original site. The menu change daily based on what kind of fresh ingredients Climpson's Arch is able to acquire.

For my visit I had some fabulous grilled cuttlefish, it came with some dill and onions which added a lovely fresh sour taste to balance off the richness of the cuttlefish. I found the house signature dish whole turbot is far too expensive at £140 for a 1.4kg fish, much better value is John Dory £35 which is plenty for 2 people. It was grilled to perfection and finished with just a touch of olive oil and sea salt. The fish was very fresh and blessed with an outstanding umami aroma. The 700g mutton chops were a showstopper, that charred smoky aroma was so inviting, and the fattiness of the meat delivered such a beautifully tender texture, it was also seasoned masterfully, mutton at its finest form.

The BBQ feast at Brat's pop-up space was outstanding. In fact, I would rate it better than its original Shoreditch site, and I think I lot is to do the bigger kitchen space plus more equipment that allows the chef team to work in a more efficient manner. The service was top notch too. I can see this place being extremely popular come summer, as I can't think of another place that does similar things in such a hip setting.
