Pure class Chinese New Year feast

Whenever Chinese New Year comes around, many Chinese restaurants across London would create a special one-off menu to celebrate the occasion. For Park Chinois, its New Year specials are loaded with interesting dishes with a classic vibe, such as a simple stir fry mustard green topped with aged cured duck. I have to admit I have been to Park Chinois so many times now (This is my 27th) so I always welcome new dishes to try out. This time, I opted for a selection of dim sum as starters before diving into some Chinese New Year special dishes as the main event.

The dim sum quality at Park Chinois is always top-notch. The dry scallop and shrimp rice rolls were an umami flavour delight, the concentrated seafood umami taste offered harmony to the smooth rice rolls, a total winner in my book. The New Year special of pipa chicken was an interesting take on a roasted chicken similar to a Cantonese roasted duck. It used a sweet soy bean sauce that reminded me of a duck sauce but loaded with sesame seeds to create a bold sweet nutty taste. The wagyu ribeye stir-fried in xo sauce delivered a melting texture while packed with a rich umami taste thanks to the dried shrimp used in the sauce, it was interesting to see the addition of pineapple to offer a balance.

Park Chinois delivered a sensational Chinese New Year feast, the quality of the food was really some of the finest you can find in London, and this venue is easily the best Chinese restaurant in London for me, hence is the reason why I visit so often. If it is only the food you care for, it is best to come at lunch hours instead of dinner as the evening offers a more club and party feel while lunch is much more relaxed and chill.
