Tredwell's

Tredwell's is a brand new opening by industry heavyweight Marcus Wareing, his talent can not be questioned, a former right hand man of Gordon Ramsay and holder of two Michelin stars with his luxury restaurant Marcus inside the 5 stars Berkeley Hotel. Having eaten there a numbers of times, I somehow found it strange that he is going with a completely different approach with Tredwell's, simple modern British foods in a relaxing setting.

The menu was mostly tapas size with some items which could be upgraded to a standard portion. Onglet steak with mushroom ketchup was impressive, tender steak with a well balanced blend of mushroom and tomato. The sticky smoked Goosnargh chicken thighs was heavily up sold by our waiter, it was decent at best with the sweetness a little too much for my liking and the green chilli in the mix made it overly strong for my palate. Confit cod was perhaps the nicest dish on the night, the sweet potato added a nice thickness to the dish with the classic use of lemon and garlic, simply done in a fine manner.

The food at Tredwell's isn't bad at all but at the end of the day for me it was mostly street food with a bit of refinement and better presentation added. The location of Tredwell's is super tourist friendly, just off Leicester Square station with very modern decor and plenty of space over three floors which I think is exactly the target audience it is wishing to aim for. This is a business operation that is trying to drive massive volume with above average levels of cooking at a decent price, time will tell if it can become a successful business strategy.
