Foxlow

Hawksmoor junior

Foxlow

Foxlow on St John Street is a casual steak and grill restaurant from the Hawksmoor team, the Hawksmoor brand is regarded as one of the best steak restaurant groups in London along with Goodman so expectations were high when I headed down there on a Saturday night. Hawksmoor is known for its quality cocktails and the Foxlow retained that standard, my St John cocktail was light with the honey blending in nicely with the botanicals of the gin.

Crispy Five Pepper Squid

smoked Tamworth spare ribs

My starter of smoked Tamworth spare ribs failed to give me any satisfaction, the sauces was far too sweet and overpowered the soft tender ribs. I managed to try two types of steak, the 300g D rump was a real beast, the lovely charcoal smoky flavour really stood out but rump is a rump at the end of the day, the texture was just not there and it was a bit chewy. However Deckles steak on the other hand, I can eat it all day long thanks to the beautiful moist and rich flavour, the tender juicy steak delivered a full on meaty explosion in my mouth.

All in all Foxlow was decent but nothing as expected, it was a notch below the level of Hawksmoor, price wise it was very reasonable given the quality of the food and the location. I guess the Hawksmoor group's business strategy is to position Foxlow as an affordable grill restaurant as an alternative to its premium offering plus the informal setting and friendly services made Foxlow an ideal place for the locals and meat lovers.
