Seafood joint in Covent Garden
Oysters time! |
Newly launched in the summer, as the name would suggest, The Oystermen is a seafood bar that is specialising in fresh oysters. The tiny Covent Garden joint is located on Henrietta Street and somehow has made into the no1 ranking on Tripadvisor for London restaurants, not that it really matter anyway as the site is loaded with fake reviews. I decided to pay a visit as I am a massive oyster addict, and central London really lacks a proper good old fashioned oyster bar. True that there is the like of classic choices such as J Sheekey and Bentley's, but these joints are much premium and formal and I am seeking something a bit more casual.

The Oystermen is tiny with all the tables are really packed together, which is more ideal for groups, 2-4 max. We opted for a selection of oysters from the daily blackboard, the Irish Louet Feisser was sensational, fatty, rich and sweet. The team from The Oystermen really knows how to source good quality oysters. The Devon brown crab was as fresh and sweet as you can get, it will get messy if you order one but it is well worth it. On the other hand, the Cornish hake was well sealed, but the red wine and onions weren't really right for me as it was overshadowing the taste of the fish. However, the addition of Pancetta does act as a nice seasoning.

The lunch at The Oystermen is a really casual seafood experience, as its name suggested, the oysters are what this place is about, the quality is top notch and you will save even more money if you attend at its happy hours time. The service on the day was lead by an Italian called Andrea, and he was as charming as you can get. For seafood lovers looking for a feast at an affordable price, The Oystermen would be a very sensible choice.
