Emperor Foods Taipei

Taiwanese fried chicken

Emperor Foods

Taiwanese fried chicken or pork is one of those items you got to try when you visit the country, treated as a local snack or a casual meal, the main difference in Taiwanese fried chicken vs the western style is that it usually contain a great depth of white and black pepper, as well as Asian spices, and often contain less batter. Emperor Foods is a mini-chain that is known for its fried pork chop and chicken, and on my visit to Taipei, I decided to pay a visit for a fast lunch.

Fried pork

Sticking to the casual dining setting, the food arrived in 5 minutes after my order. The fried chicken leg was done really well, cooked at the perfect level with a really tender texture. The skin was really crispy but without the heavy use of batter, which made it far less oily. The pork chop, on the other hand, was also solid. The meat was very moist and the peppery tone was fabulous, with the mild sharpness of the spices offset the richness of the deep-fried element.

I got to say the food offering from Emperor Foods was fantastic, it wasn't fancy but the execution of the classic Taiwanese chicken and pork was done in a fine manner. Not to mention for less than £5, you can get a full meal that also comes with soup and rice or noodles, that real value for money. Really worth a visit for a quick snack or a fast meal if you are in a hurry.
