Beef and tomato temple

Tortilla |
If you are a foodie and have a keen interest in visiting the Basque Country in Spain, then you most likely have heard of the legendary Bar Nestor in San Sebastian. The little bar only offers a few things on its menu but has done them all exceptionally well. The infamous tortilla is especially in demand as it only offers 20 portions per service. The full experience of Bar Nestor would be the tortilla, followed by tomato salad and fried peppers, before finishing off with the txuleta chop steak, which comes from retired dairy old cows from the Basque country. something really rare and you would usually only be able to find in Northern Spain.

This is my 3rd visit to Bar Nestor, and luckily I was able to secure the tortilla once again and it was indeed really special. It had just the right level of salt and was really runny and creamy but not thick at all, that alone was worth the visit. The Gernika peppers had a pleasant bitterness, which worked with the refreshing and fruity taste of the tomato salad. The main event of the txuleta steak was as good as I recalled. It came on a hot plate sizzling with a very inviting smoky aroma. The high heat seared all the lovely meaty juice within the meat, every mouthful had a bust of juice popping into my mouth, it was really a really special experience.

Give it to me! |
It was so good to be back at Bar Nestor, and it was just as good as it was before from 3 years ago. I would for sure revisit again should I visit San Sebastian, as I have yet to find a steak join in the UK that can rival its meat quality, not to mention at a cost of 44 euro for 1kg steak, that is not possible even at a half-decent steak house in the UK. For meat lovers, Bar Nestor is a must if you ever pay a visit to the Basque country.
Food 4/5
What I paid:
35 Euro per person with wine
Average cost without drinks and services:
