Dim sum feasting
Yauctcha is part of the Hakkasan empire, perhaps the most successful high-end Chinese restaurant group outside of Asia. The last time I visited was more than 5 years ago, and since then many things have changed, with the group has been sold to an American hospitality group, and it now has a new group executive chef Andrew Yeo. The menu has also changed a bit so I was interested if Yauatcha (the casual fine dining concept of the group that focuses on dim sum) has benefited from the change of ownership.

I ordered a selection of dim sums from its alc menu. There are some classic dim sums, as well as some with a modern touch. The traditional scallop shu mai was hard to fault, steamed perfectly, with a thinly sliced scallop placed on top of a mixture of pork and prawn meat patty, it was finely seasoned and really moist. Out of all the 'new age' dim sum, I found the seafood and truffle dumpling was the best, the sweetness of the crab and scallop worked like a treat with the soft earthy profile of the truffle enhancing the flavour of the seafood, it was such a great balance. Other items like char siu bao and version puff, which are house classics, were as good as I recalled.

I found the dim sum quality at Yauctcha very high, in fact, I would rate it as one of the finest in London, easily within the top 5. I especially enjoyed the steam items, as I could taste the quality of the raw ingredients, and appreciate the craftsmanship of the hand-rolling and folding techniques of the pastry. The price is for sure at the high-end mark with pretty much all the dim sum costing north of £10 per dish. So best come for a special treat when you want to give your dim sum experience a bit of luxury touch.
