Oma

A not-so-Greek Greek restaurant

Txuleta sirloin, chimichurri and tomato salad

Nestled in the vibrant heart of London Bridge, Oma offers an inviting escape into the warm embrace of Greek cuisine with a creative take from chef-owner David Carter, who is also the mastermind behind the much-loved Smokstak and Manteca. While it markets itself as a Greek restaurant, you will find many not-so-Greek items on the menu. From Spanish steak to red prawns. The open kitchen of Oma adds a dynamic element, allowing diners to witness the culinary magic unfold. For my second visit, I opted for some new dishes that just launched for Autumn.

Chalkstream trout, citrus dressing

Charred lamb belly, hummus, shallot

Funny enough the more non-Greek the dishes are, the more I enjoyed. The grilled red prawns had a great smoky seafood aroma thanks to the open-fire cooking method. It tasted so sweet and the head of the prawn was loaded with so much powerful umami flavour. The Galician aged sirloin was cooked perfectly, it was bold and rich in beefy essence, also very tender and well seasoned. It has nothing to do with Greek cuisine however for sure. The grilled turbot was also outstanding but again it felt more Spanish with its sweet muscatel dressing.

Grilled wild red prawns and dill

Turbot, confit garlic + moscatel

Oma at London Bridge is a delightful culinary journey that takes Greek-ish cuisine with a Western European touch, offering a fun blend of traditional flavours and modern dining. If you are a purist who cares about authenticity to the core, you might find Oma is something outrageous. However, if you are open-minded and care about great taste, Oma promises a memorable dining experience. The combination of excellent food using some really fine ingredients ticks the box for me, Oma is a standout choice in the bustling London Bridge area.
