Taku

Omakase sushi counter dining

Scallop and caviar

When it comes to dining experiences that combine elegance, tradition, and exquisite flavors, few culinary ventures do it better than sushi omakase, a traditional Japanese way of serving sushi, and that is what Taku is all about. This hidden gem is not just a dining spot; it’s an art gallery where the medium is the freshest seafood and the artist is the sushi chef. Stepping into Taku feels like entering a realm where time slows down, and every detail is tailored to perfection. The menu price can be off-putting, as dinner costs £300 with food alone (no choice chef menu), best come in for lunch instead as that's what I did.

While sushi takes center stage, Taku’s menu also offers a selection of other traditional dishes designed to elevate your dining experience. Each dish is crafted with the same precision and passion, from a delicate mushroom tempura to umami-packed turbot rice. This was followed by a selection of nigiri, each freshly crafted in front of you by the chefs. I have fallen in love with the amberjack as the fish had a powerful creamy melting texture, seasoned to perfection. it was right up there with Endo's flagship sushi joint in West London. Another strong offering was an Irish oyster, lightly charred on a grill, before being rolled into a nigiri, it tasted fresh and full of umami notes, truly wonderful.

Mayfair is home to many exceptional restaurants, but the Michelin-starred Taku stands out as a sanctuary for sushi lovers. It’s a place where food transcends mere sustenance and becomes an art form, where every bite tells a story of tradition, passion, and excellence. For an unforgettable Japanese fine dining sushi experience, Taku deserves a top spot on your list. Make a reservation, surrender to the omakase experience, and prepare to be captivated by the flavors of Japan, right in the heart of Mayfair. Yes, it is expensive, so I suggest coming in for lunch instead of dinner.
