East meets South America
Octopus, black quinoa, onion, lime |
Fusion cuisine is something that is hard to get it right, but when managed, it can be something truly beautiful and expressive. On top of that, it is not restricted by rules with an open canvas that allows endless creativity and ideas, which can lead to many exciting concepts and styles. Pachamama East is somewhat a unique concept in London, merging Asian and Peruvian flavours. The restaurant itself is modern, edgy with open bar seating and live DJ playing music at the weekends. The menu at Pachamama East is designed to be more sharing, with many small dishes in tapas sizes that allow diners to enjoy a wide range of flavours in one single setting.

Sea bass ceviche, soy, sesame |
We kicked off with a dish of sea bass ceviche, it was a powerful dish in taste with sharpness from the lemon and boldness form the sesame. The octopus dish was by far the best dish of the meal, it was finely seasoned and so tender at the same time, the black quinoa absorbed all the wonderful seafood aroma with the lime juice added a hint of lovely sour tone. I was a big fan of the crispy lamb belly, the miso element offered a wonderful soy aroma while the refreshing taste of the green pepper offset the richness of the lamb. "Pollo a la Brasa", the Peruvian version of roasted chicken was very good indeed, the meat was moist with a tiny hint of smoky undertone, it was like a heaven version of Nardos.

‘Pollito a la brasa’, lamb’s lettuce, lemon thyme |
The service was pretty standard, everyone was friendly but as the venue was getting busier deep into the evening service, it was hard to get attention from the waiters and every dishes came at a much slower pace. All in all, it was an interesting and fun evening, while not everything worked, I did experience plenty of new tastes and encountered a great concept that I can see that it can go far. The Asian element was not as dominated as the Peruvian, which I think this is the way it should be as it made it far more unusual and add a hippy and buzz element to Pachamama East.
