Kitty Fishers

 Cozy yet classy British cuisine

Whipped Cod’s Roe On Toast

When Kitty Fishers opened back in 2014, it was perhaps the most trending restaurant opening of the year. Back then it was headed up by chef wizard Tom Parry who has gone on to become a very successful restaurant operator with Brats and Mountain which both have a Michelin star. While Tom was in charge, Booking a table was mission impossible as his approach to modern British cuisine with a nod to traditional techniques was something pretty new and exciting back then. 10 years later, the menu hasn't changed much with British cuisine still at its core, using a range of fine local ingredients.

Norfolk Quail & Pork Belly Gala Pie
Chicken Liver Parfait, Kumquat Marmalade

For my starter, I had a good old-fashioned pork pie stuffed with a quail egg. The pork mixture had an enjoyable fatty and meaty texture, the only downside for me the pastry was a touch dry. For the main event, it was a giant piece of Galloway wing rib steak, it was cooked medium rare as it should be and well seasoned. The mild profile of the green peppercorn offered a hint of spiciness and pepperiness without overpowering the steak which was a nice touch. I feared the butter sauce would make the dish too heavy but turned out it added a lovely aroma and some fresh aromatic tone thanks to the parsley within.

Kitty Fisher's modern British might seem pretty standard in the London dining world these days, but it was one of the pioneers if we rolled back 10 years ago. Standard I think it still holds up really strong in the crowded Mayfair dining space, it is small with a cozy British charm thanks to the warm service, along with some British classics but done in a refined manner, it is hard not to love this place.
