Morchella

Innovative Mediterranean charm

Salt cod churros

London's food scene is ever-evolving, and it takes something truly special for a restaurant to stand out. Morchella, a relatively new gem in the city's bustling culinary landscape, has been quietly making waves with its innovative menu and warm atmosphere. Morchella offers a dining experience that's all about Mediterranean cuisine with a British touch, and highly seasonal. You would find Southern French, Spanish, Italian and Greek essences among the food offerings. The interesting thing about Morchella is it doesn't have a service charge as is factored into the price of the food.

This is my second visit, the stracciatella salad looked simple but a load of effort went into it, the vegetables were nicely pickled then charred, and the beetroot was marinated. I really enjoyed it being packed with so many flavours, while tasting so fresh at the same time. The day boat fish dish is a platter of white fish: seabass, seabream, cuttlefish, brill, and gurnard, all grilled with a sweet crab sauce. I personally would prefer they stick with one fish, as the brill and seabass are far better than the best due to their firmer texture and sweetness. The beef cheek cooked in red wine was a winter comfort dish, it had a melting texture and the floral profile of the wine offered a touch of sweetness which was enjoyable.

One of the things that truly sets Morchella apart is its commitment to innovation, turning classic Mediterranean flavours into something new, fresh, and exciting. Many things might look simple visually, but a great deal of craftsmanship and time went into the dish preparation, and that is reflected in the taste. The staff at Morchella are as much a part of the experience as the food itself. Attentive and knowledgeable, they’re eager to share insights into the dishes and sourcing ingredients, adding an extra layer of connection to the meal. Morchella is a kind of restaurant that is worth checking out if you are a foodie.
