Impactful Mediterranean flavours

Cuttlefish & octopus fideua |
Nestled within Newson's Yard, just off Pimlico Road, Wildflowers offers a contemporary Mediterranean dining experience in the heart of west London. Since its launch, the restaurant has been visited by many high-profile British chefs, given that it is run by Aaron Potter, the former head chef of the Michelin-starred restaurant Elystan Street. It branded itself as a Mediterranean-lead restaurant with an international twist, and everything was cooked on charcoal, which sounded very interesting.

Duck cooked over coals, golden raisins, pinenuts & sherry |

Iberico pork chop, quince, almond & gremolata |
The menu is big on seasonal ingredients, given I visited in the wintertime, a plate of hot cuttlefish and octopus fideua was ideal, and the cooking of the pasta was spot on, it absorbed all the lovely seafood umami notes, this dish won't look out of place in Valencia. The Iberico pork chop was cooked medium well with an unusual use of quince and almond as garnishes, which somehow worked wonders as I really enjoyed the sweet savoury taste with a nutty aftertaste, it was the dish of the day for me. The duck was also a strong offering, it came with raisin and sherry, and those burnt-sweet bitter profiles matched the duck perfectly.

Wildflowers serves a carefully curated menu inspired by the culinary traditions of Spain, France, and Italy, all adapted with British seasonal ingredients. I would say Aaron has taken the best of those western cuisines and has turn into something very unique with good results, he's managed to bring the Mediterranean to west London with impeccable style and I really enjoyed it. There have been some great Mediterranean openings in London 2024 like Lita and Morchella, and I would rate Wild Flowers at the top along with Lita. This is a place I would love to head back to sometime in the future.
