Hélène Darroze at The Connaught

Total fine dining package

Red mullet, hazelnut, rhubarb

Nestled within the luxurious Connaught Hotel in Mayfair, Hélène Darroze at The Connaught delivers a three-Michelin-starred dining experience that balances refined elegance with warm hospitality. The menu, crafted by Chef Hélène Darroze, is a celebration of her French roots blended seamlessly with the finest British ingredients. Each course, presented with impeccable precision, demonstrates a deep understanding of flavor, texture, and seasonality. I have been here a few times in the past, for my 11th visit, I got the chance to enjoy a tasting menu at its chef's table, overlooking the busy open kitchen.

Beetroot, kombu, pike roe

Lobster, spices, carrot, citrus

John Dory, celeriac, lime

The surprise dish for me was the beetroot, visually attractive and had wonderful flavours. The white kmobu and trout roe added umami and uplifted the sweetness of the beetroot; no fancy or luxury ingredients in this dish, but that is what makes it special. I appreciate that a chef can use humble ingredients and still be able to turn out stunning dishes. The signature lobster dish, with its vibrant saffron-infused bisque, is a masterclass in depth and refinement. I had this dish many times before, and the standard remained. The main roasted pigeon was cooked perfectly, as tender as pigeons can get, and the use of blood orange added a sharpness that added balance to the dish.

Pigeon, pumpkin, blood orange, mole sauce

Rhubarb, pink pepper, vanilla

Chocolate, tannea topinambur

Dining at Hélène Darroze is an experience that transcends mere gastronomy—it is an immersion into a world where every detail is carefully considered to create something truly extraordinary. I got to especially shout out to the service, which was impeccable, striking the perfect balance between attentiveness and discretion, ensuring that every guest feels genuinely cared for. This is the difference between a good restaurant vs a great restaurant. Service is such an important element, just as much as the food, especially at the fine dining level. For sure, there are better restaurants in London that can offer better food, but very few can offer the complete package like Helene Darroze.
