Tucked away in the heart of Borough Market, Oma is a Greek-inspired restaurant that has quickly gained a reputation and become one of the most popular London restaurant openings of 2024. Oma, which means “mother” in Greek, pays homage to the rich heritage of Greek cuisine while embracing modern techniques and global influences. Upon entering Oma, diners are met with a sleek crudo bar showcasing fresh seafood selections, emphasizing the restaurant’s dedication to high-quality ingredients and minimalist, ingredient-driven dishes. It has landed itself a Michelin star in the 2025 guide.

For my 3rd visit, I opted for a dish for each session of the menu, from dip and small dish, to grill and clay pot. I wasn't much of a fan of the mussels saganaki, it felt like mussels cooked in a very spicy stock that took away any taste of the shellfish. The must-try is the Ox tail giouvetsi, an elevated interpretation of the Greek orzo dish. In this dish, beef ragù is slow-cooked in a rich bone marrow stock, infusing the pasta with a deep, bold flavour. You can not go wrong with the txuleta steak. The rump cut was cooked perfectly, and it had a really rich, beefy taste. It was not really Greek for me, but it tasted great.

I am not sure if it is getting too busy thanks to its ever-growing popularity, but I found the quality of the food was a touch below vs my first 2 visits. Despite that, what I admire about this place is that the pacing of the meal is thoughtfully orchestrated, allowing guests to savor each dish without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. The restaurant’s intimate setting fosters a convivial yet relaxed atmosphere, making it ideal for both special occasions and casual gatherings alike. Despite its fine-dining aspirations, Oma maintains a sense of warmth and accessibility.
