Mangal 1.1

Kebab heaven

Mangal 1.1

I was really sad when the Korean restaurant: Jubo, the pop-up inside The Bedroom Bar came to an end. Jubo, as Korean fried chicken specialist, is one of my personal favourite London restaurants. But as soon as I have discovered that the legendary Kebab joint: Mangal 1.1 have expanded into the pop-up space, I was filled up with joy because Mangal 1.1's predecessor, Mangal 1, is known for being one of the very best Kebab restaurants in London. The only reason that stopped me going to visit Mangal 1, was because of the location (Dalston), so the new and more central location (Old Street) is very ideal for kebab enthusiast like myself.

mezes selection

Out of the selection of mezes, I found that he patlican salad really stood out, the mild sweetness of the aubergine with a soft hint of earthiness worked so well with the fresh peppers. We have managed to try the whole selection of kebabs as a sharing platter. The Adana kofte was simply wonderful, it was loaded with great depth of spices and richness without the chilli being overpowering. The grilled lamb chops were also outstanding, the seasoning was spot on and the meat itself was still very moist with a bold smokiness, it delivered such a mouth-watering savoury aroma.

mix grilled, Turkish style!

Far too many people treat kebab as a just a drunken night out belly filler, but that is altogether different from the true as proper kebab, with the right seasoning and fresh ingredients, it is some of the best BBQ items in the world. And as for Mangal 1.1, it is hard to find fault in it, kebab-wise, they have done a fantastic job. Another big plus about this pop-up place is being inside The Bedroom Bar. So the drink choices are fantastic, from cocktails to a strong collection of craft beers. Bear in mind all the kebabs come with a rather big portion of salad and pita bread so you shouldn't need to order any side orders if you are not too hungry.

Average cost without drinks and services:
