Tayyabs

Old school Punjabi

lamb chops

If you live in London, there is a low chance that you would have never heard of the famous Tayyabs, a Punjabi restaurant in East London that opened back in 1972 and has been popular ever since thanks to its affordable price and quality curry. My advice would be if you can, come at lunch time as evening can be extremely busy and there is a chance you might have to wait if you have booked a table in advance.

nann bread
dry meat
spinach lamb

This is my second visit to Tayyabs, the legendary lamb chop was finely seasoned and had a great balance of richness and , the mutton tika on the hand was nowhere as good, a touch too chewy and rather one dimension in taste. Dry meat for me was a super spicy affair, packed a punch with fire and heat, really bold and strong flavours that wouldn't sit well unless you are a seasonal curry veteran. Don't forget they run a BYOB policy so bring beer and wine as you wish.
